Clear up your mind in under 30 minutes

“One of the best ways to recharge is by simply being in the presence of art. No thoughts, no critiques. Just full-on absorption mode.”

Dean Francis Alfar

How many times have you struggled to focus and get creative ideas to the table, constantly bouncing from one thought to the other?

This is a typical problem of my social media generation where attention span equals 1 second and you end up losing your valuable time scrolling through the online information litter way past midnight.

The thing is - our brain is lazy. It is happy to be fed with entertaining information. Have you ever heard of a lazy brain syndrom? If your brain is constantly procrastinating, it even begins to shrink. Consider it as an athlete stopping the training and his/her body accommodating the new lifestyle, resulting in decreased performance.

So how do you clear your mind without paying for an outrageously expensive 5 star hotel in the middle of nowhere or climbing the Alps for a week without any internet connection?

These tricks work in a combination, but also one by one, depending on how much time you can realistically set aside to get yourself back in “creative shape” within your busy schedule. Remember - 1 minute is better than nothing.

Here are my top 5 tricks to help you clear up your mind fast:

1. Embrace outdoors & nature

Go outside for a quick run, walk, workout. A 10, 20 or 30 min break would be enough to help you switch off your thought and information flood and re-center again for the day ahead.

2. Escape digital world

Don’t use any gadgets and try to sit still for 5 minutes, letting your mind “defrost”. You will immediately feel the need to check your email or switch on the “undertone” TV, Radio or Spotify - don’t do it. Be strong and liberate your mind, letting it speak with you.

3. Clean your space

Hide unnecessary clutter items, leave just the most visually appealing decor and useful things on the surface, hide the rest in organized boxes. This might take up a bit of time, but it is certainly worth it. Do it in zones - starting with table and making your bed, signaling to your brain that these things are now in order. Let’s trick our mind into thinking it has one less checkbox less to worry.

4. Shut down socializing

Don’t socialize, let your mind speak with you for at least 10 minutes. You will notice how your need to communicate switches to your inner voice speaking with you, giving you creative ideas. Quality before quantity - remember that. No need to small talk 24/7, leave this time to focus on your inner voice building up relationship with the most lasting relationship partner you have - YOU!

5. Reconnect with subconsciousness with music

Switch on classical or deep focus music without lyrics to enable your creative thought flow and restart doing one task at a time. You will feel the difference now in how refreshed your mind is.

Takeaway

We trick our brain into thinking we are busy & wanting to be as lazy as possible. Don’t let your mind become a litter board hindering your creativity & productivity. Be gentle to yourself & take these extra 30 minutes to detox from the hectics of communication, data flood & city stress. Good luck, my dear you. Go get that state of flow back on!
